Tales of the Stupid: Laptop Retardation

Welcome to the first edition of our latest segment here at the Crushed Tomato. We like to call this one, "Tales of the Stupid". These tales will consist of personal recounts of actual events or conversations that show no regard for intellect or sanity.

If you've ever had a conversation where you had to resist the urge to choke the other person into submission, then chances are good that you have your own tale to tell. Without further adu, enjoy the stupidity:

Client: Remember that laptop that you setup for me a few weeks ago?

Twitch: Yes. Is it working okay?

Client: Well, the remote desktop connection to my office computer isn't working.

Twitch: That's very strange. Do you get an error message?

Client: Yeah, it says something about not being able to find the computer.

Twitch: Well is your office computer on at the time when you try to connect?

Client: Yes. Like I'm trying right now and I can see that my computer is on.

Twitch: Are you testing this from inside the office?

Client: Yes, I am.

Twitch: Well that won't work because your laptop is configured to connect to an external IP address. It won't work from inside the building.

Client: Well is there any way to fix that?

Twitch: No. Why would you want to connect from inside anyway when you can just walk over to your computer?

Client: True. Well should I go outside to the parking lot and test it?

Wow, compared to my end users that guy is a rock star! After not understanding even the basic concept of this after 6 explanations, I would have gotten the old "(Sigh) Well it should work in both places, perhaps I was more then 5 steps away from my desktop computer with my laptop and needed immediate access to data on my desktop's Q: drive(network storage)."
